The 17-900 reflector BaF2 window is the most resistant fluoride to high-energy radiation and it has high IR transmission up to 11μm. BaF2 can be affected by water and is less resistant to moisture than CaF2. The material is relatively hard but is sensitive to thermal shock.

With a parabolic reflecting optical element, the on-axis output of the MIRL 17-900 pulsed infrared light source is increased by 10x – 12x at distances in the range 20mm to 100mm.
